As one of our designers said: “Glass is the most beautiful material one can render,” and he was not that far from the truth. Glass is what makes the difference between a good rendering and a bad rendering. If you want your design to look spectacular, just add glass to it. We are happy to introduce to you our new PBR Glass material, optimized to look great with our photorealistic rendering - Vectary Photon.

Glass is the most beautiful material one can render

How to use PBR glass materials in Vectary

  1. Create an account in Vectary and open the 3D editor (Studio)
  2. Create your model from scratch or import your 3D model, or go to Library to drag and drop an object onto the scene.
  3. Now, open the Library tab and in Collections click on Glass materials
  4. Select an object you want to change the material for, and drag and drop the material to it from the library. (Alternatively, just click on the material). Please note, that while editing the material, it might appear black, the true beauty will show only after you start rendering with Vectary Photon.
  5. Add lights and ShadowPlane, and start rendering with Vectary Photon. Go to Render tab, download or open the Vectary Photon app, then hit Generate Render to start photorealistic rendering. The amazing result will show after a couple of minutes.

Tip: Reflections and refractions: Thickness matters

The specific benefit of the glass material is that it refracts light and at the same time reflects it. Look at the objects around. When you take a glass jar, the light not only enters the material but also leaves it. It’s because the glass on the jar has thickness. Thus “thickness” is one of the most important values that cause very different results. You can add thickness with the Extrude tool in the Edit mode

Tip: Glass and Acrylic glass have different results

Hover over the glass material in the library so you know which one to use. Acrylic glass is plastic and it behaves slightly differently than normal glass. Everything will show after rendering.

Tip: How to fix a broken material

Is it black?

This is ok, it will show in the Vectary Photon rendering. Click on the Render tab, open Vectary Photon app and Generate render.

Is it aligned unevenly on the object?

This means you need to apply UV projections on the object

1. Select the object with the broken material

2. Go to Object mode > Helpers > Uv Projections

3. In Projection settings select the Projection type that works best for your shape.

Is it rendered with Instant?

Well, this type of material works only with Photon rendering, Instant requires a different setting.

Tip: How to edit the color of the PBR glass material

For Crystal glass Material

  1. Select an object with the material
  2. In Material settings on the right panel change the Absorption color.

For Acrylic glass Material

  1. Select an object with the material
  2. In Material settings on the right panel change the Color.

FAQ

Are these PBR glass materials for free?

Anyone can use Vectary Materials for free. You can even preview the material with Vectary Photon photorealistic rendering, however, downloading of the rendered image or generating a Vectary WebAR viewer is a part of the paid plan.
