Decorate a 3D printed Christmas tree and win a 3D printer

Not only will this Xmas tree last forever, but it’ll have your friends and family in awe when seeing it.

If you’re bored with traditional styling and want something alternative and original for this year’s Xmas, we created a 3D printed Christmas tree using the Joints and Wires plugin in our VECTARY 3D editor. With its cool, minimalist look, it might be just the thing you were looking for to decorate your house for the holidays.

Go ahead and recreate it, it’s super easy and fun. You can download the 3D files of the joints here on our website.

Here’s a little Vectary 1.0 step-by-step guide on how to do it:

  1. 3D print the joints.

Download the joints and 3D print them. We used a Zortrax M200 3D printer and ABS filament. If you don’t own a 3D printer, you can always use our Shapeways plugin to order a 3D print.

The tree is made of 2 types of joints. You will need 5 pieces for the trunk and 18 pieces for the twigs.

2. Get some wooden sticks of different sizes.

You will need sticks with 3 different diameters. You can buy these wooden sticks in any hobby shop or online.

Size and diameters of the sticks in mm

Main stick used for the trunk:

length: 800mm (31,5 inch)

diameter: 20 mm (0,79 inch)

The twig base: sticks with different lengths and a 12mm (0,47 inch) diameter.

From bottom to top:

3x 225mm (8,86 inch)

3x 195 mm (7,68 inch)

3x 145 mm (1,77 inch)

3x 125mm (4,92 inch)

3x 100mm (3,94 inch)

For the stand:

diameter: 12mm (0,47 inch)

length: 3x 200 mm (7,87 inch)

Small twigs:

diameter: 10 mm (0,39 inch)

lengths:

15x 100mm (3,94 inch)

21x 70mm (2,76 inch)

You can fit and place these small end sticks quite randomly for a more natural look.
